Description

These continue to be tumultuous and unsettled days in America. The ongoing effects of 2020 are still being felt deeply, the ground under our feet does not yet feel entirely solid, and our nation’s current landscape does not feel entirely clear. Many of us struggle to know just what is a robust and faithful Christian response in such days; for others, the institutional church has been fraught with disappointment and perhaps disillusionment.

Even so, we maintain that God’s people living faithfully in the world represent the best hope for the world. How can we be those people of hope? What does America need right now from Christians, and how can we do that? How can our churches do that?

This Soundings Seminar will help us move toward some answers to these pressing questions. We are thrilled to be joined by Dr. Josh Yates– an author, accomplished sociologist, friend of Coracle, and Director of the Ormond Center at Duke Divinity School. Dr. Yates will be in conversation with Rev. Bill Haley (Coracle Executive Director), where they will:

  1. Share some tools to help us diagnose our moment– especially as it relates to the church in America,
  2. Explore how a larger vision of "Shalom" can play out in our concrete settings and communities,
  3. Help us identify and pursue viable and life-giving ways forward.

Bill will also briefly introduce his new work, “Essential Christianity” as one way Coracle is responding to this cultural moment. We very much hope you will join us for this rich and timely conversation!
