Description

We will follow several different narratives of enslaved peoples in Virginia, examining what their lives might have looked like. We will follow the story of urban slaves in Alexandria, Sally Hemings, and thousands who would have passed through the port of Richmond.  We will visit sites in Alexandria, Richmond, Charlottesville, and the Corhaven Graveyard.

General Itinerary (subject to change!):
Saturday March 28
8am meet for bus-pick up in Falls Church, VA
8:15am Depart for Alexandria
9-11am walking tour of Alexandria with Manumission Tours 
11:30am Depart for Richmond
2-5pm Walk the Richmond Slave Trail (with special guest speaker Rev. Tee Turner)
5pm depart for Charlottesville
6-6:30pm arrive Charlottesville, check in to hotel
7:30pm dinner and group discussion at The Local
O/N Charlottesville

Sunday, March 29
8:30am Depart hotel for Monticello
9-12 visit Monticello visit with Hemings exhibit, house tour, and tour of grounds focused specifically on slavery at Monticello
12pm depart for Corhaven
2-4pm reflection at the Corhaven Graveyard (Led by Bill Haley and Sarah Kohrs)
4-6pm transfer back to Falls Church, VA

We do not recommend this trip for people under the age of 12. Mature students are very welcome to attend.

It will be a full weekend and we’re excited about offering this special pilgrimage. $375 per person based on double occupancy. Single occupancy is an additional $60.  Includes meals, snacks, lodging, tips, entrance fees and transportation from Northern Virginia.
